A disqualified driver from Ryde who pleaded with officers not to arrest him, after he was seen at the wheel of his partner’s Renault Clio, has been handed a 6-month driving ban. Jack Tregoning, 30, of Alexandra Road in Ryde, pleaded guilty to driving whilst disqualified, driving without insurance and possession of a controlled drug of class B when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court earlier this week (9th January). Liz Miller, prosecuting, told the court that on 13th December, at around 15:58, Tregoning was seen on Beaper Shute in Brading. Police officers noticed that the vehicle was being driven questionably. Police followed the 30-year-old until he headed into the Tesco Extra Store in Ryde, stopped the vehicle, stepped outside and locked the door. Tregoning then said to Police ‘please don’t nick me – I’ve just done my first day of work’ adding, ‘I know I shouldn’t have driven’. Back in August 2023, Tregoning was handed a 12-month community order and banned from driving for 17 months after he crashed into a Police car and fled the scene. Tregoning admitted to Police that he had last smoked cannabis a few days ago and that he had an amount of the drug in his bag. As a result of having no licence, Tregoning was also arrested for driving without insurance. Defending, Barry Arnett said that his client knows that he made a mistake on the day in question and that he was making progress on the current community order. Speaking to the court himself, Tregoning said that he knows he didn’t go about things the right way and that he was looking to purchase an e-bike so that he could still get around. Magistrates revoked the existing community order and resentenced, handing Tregoning a 12-month community order with a 9-month drug rehabilitation review and 30 rehabilitation days attached. He was banned from driving for 6 months and ordered to pay costs of £85 and a £114 surcharge fee.

Is that an additional 6 months?
I am confused, if already disqualified and caught driving again
obviously this Idiot does not respect the law!
“He will obviously re-offend”
Bang him up, it is the only way to teach Numpty’s
keep our roads safe.
just anther day in ryde
Your usual insane comment then…..
Well done iow police keep on their cases
Why was he not jailed?
He could have ended up injuring anybody in his path
Glad to read that he was banned from driving.
That’ll teach him.
Remove a limb at the first offence.
They will not reoffend, the island will be a safer place.
He was already disqualified from driving so this moron
will obviously re-offend, obviously does not respect the law.
This window licker should not be able to drive like this
At what point is this guy going to cross the custody threshold? When he mows somone down? If he injured someone they would have no redress as he is uninsured and is unlikely to be in a position to fund compensation himself. He needs to get the message and clearly has not so far. Three months inside might be more likely to make him stop and think about re-offending.
So was banned 17mths in August 23,so not drive till Jan 2025 ,but now has a 6nth ban instead and can drive again June 24 ? Unless I’ve read it wrong?.
Another irresponsible oldie, eh? Wil our roads never be safe from these geriatric menaces?
If you can cope with your name being plastered all over this website and other similar news outlets, then as far as I can see, you’ve pretty much got a big green light to do whatever you want with zero fear of being locked up for more than a few hours in Newport police station. Hardly anyone gets custody. If you don’t care what anyone else thinks, there is no deterent and I thought that magistrates have to consider ‘deterent’ value in a sentence. Obviously not.
He should have been given a suspended custodial sentence. Magistrates failed here.
