Amazon World has launched a fundraising campaign to help investigate a mysterious illness that is affecting Bert the Red Panda, with over £1,600 already donated.
Bert is said to be quite unwell and is requiring around-the-clock care. Despite many tests being carried out the cause of the problem is yet to be identified.
To investigate Bert’s illness and get to the bottom of why he is so unwell is coming at quite a cost, at a time when income has been severely hampered due to the pandemic. The red panda has spent 10 days and 8 nights at the vets, has been on a drip to rehydrate him more than once and has had various blood tests, x-rays, swabs, scans and ECGs.
The next step is for a specialist vet to scan his heart and other organs looking for abnormalities, with the public being asked to help fund this vital medical assessment.
A crowdfunder has been launched at http://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/bert-needs-your-help.
A spokesperson for Amazon World says:
“It is very difficult to treat an animal without finding out what is making them so sick in the first place.
“We want to be able to do as much as we possibly can to make him better, but after the long period of no income this situation comes as a huge financial burden to us. This is why we are asking for your help”.
It’s not been a good year for the pandas, with Bert and Xiao-xing loosing their offspring back in June.

Maybe the owners shouldn’t be keeping wild animals for profit if they aren’t prepared to finance their welfare.
