A cheque for over £5,000 has been presented to Beaulieu House by the ‘Always with D’ cyclists.
Back in August, the team cycled 700 miles from St Thomas’ Square in Newport to San Sebastian in Spain in memory of team member Darren Andrew, who sadly passed away in January 2018.
Darren had been an integral part of a previous fundraising challenge which saw the cycling team ride to Santander, raising money for Beaulieu House and KissyPuppy.
A total of £8,171.70 was raised during the latest event, with £5,194 going to Beaulieu House and £2,377.70 to Breathe Easy Isle of Wight – a support group for the respiratory department at St Mary’s Hospital.
Tony Wake, Chairman of the charity Beaulieu Respite said:
“This is yet another fantastic fundraiser by these wonderful cyclists. Their last trip to Santander paid for a substantial part of the building of our on-site soft play area, The Fun Shack. This is enjoyed daily by our children and young people at Beaulieu House.
“It was also a rather moving moment during the cheque presentation when a mother came up to the cyclists and told them that Beaulieu House is a lifeline to her and many other families on the Island and without fundraisers like them, she doesn’t know what would happen”.
Beaulieu House, situated in Newport, is the Island’s children’s home and overnight respite centre for young people with challenging and complex disabilities.
