Aldi has confirmed it will be rolling out solar panels to 90 more of its existing UK stores as part of a £7.7million investment in its on-site renewable energy programme, with stores in Lake and Cowes set to benefit.
The supermarket chain is installing advanced 144 kWp solar systems across 41 stores before the end of 2025, with a further 49 stores set to receive the technology next year.
Eagle-eyed shoppers may have already spotted solar panels being installed at Aldi’s Cowes store, but the supermarket has confirmed its Lake store will also benefit. Island Echo first reported on the news back in February.
The new solar installations will generate an average of 100,000 kWh annually, with the move part of Aldi’s wider commitment to increasing its renewable energy usage on site and strengthening its energy resilience.
Separately, any upcoming new stores will receive the advanced solar systems as part of the supermarket’s new store openings programme.

It’s about time they started putting solar panels on commercial buildings, instead of taking green-field sites.
now they need to start putting them over carparks as well.
(this would provide shade / shelter to the car parks, as well a proviging renewable enegery at the point of use, where existing infrastructure already exists.
No green-field sites should be allowed for solar panels, until ALL available commercial and carpark spaces have been utilised.
