airambulancetakeoffpelllaneStudents about to leave school in Ryde this afternoon (Tuesday) were given a surprise when the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance landed in the school’s playing fields.

The yellow helicopter landed behind Ryde Academy just after 14:45, however the pilot soon realised he had landed in the wrong field. The air ambulance quickly took off again, circling Binstead estate before landing at Pell Lane despite the strong winds.

An elderly gentleman, being attended to by paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service, was airlifted to a mainland hospital by the life-saving charity.
