UPDATED: Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has airlifted a seriously ill patient from Simeon Street recreation ground in Ryde this morning (Thursday).
The life-saving HEMS team landed in the town at 10:00, where the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service and the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service were awaiting their arrival.
Doctors have fully sedated the male patient, placed him in a head block and have flown him to Southampton General Hospital.
The circumstances behind the patient’s injuries and the reason for the fire service’s involvement remains unclear – although it is thought the man may have suffered a head injury.
The yellow and green helicopter took off from Simeon Rec at 10:55.
UPDATE @ 12:08 – It has been confirmed that a 58-year-old man has suffered a traumatic injury following a fall.
He is being treated for his injuries at Southampton General Hospital.
