24-year-old Bailey Smith, who pushed over a moped and damaged several flowerpots in a Ventnor garden, has been handed an £80 fine. Smith, of no fixed abode, appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court today (Friday) charged with 2x criminal damage to property under £5,000 and possession of a controlled drug of Class B. Prosecuting, Lauren Stone told the court that at around 18:20 on 12th December 2023, Smith attended an address of someone known to him in the South Wight town of Ventnor. Despite knowing the occupants of the address, Smith wasn’t welcome and after being told to leave he remained outside the property, walking up and down with a rock in his hand. Flitting between the rear and the front of the property, Smith began to pick up garden furniture including some flowerpots and threw them on the floor. Smith then pushed over a moped onto the floor, damaging the 2-wheeled vehicle. Smith then left the scene when he knew that Police were on their way. A day later, Smith was arrested and a small chewing gum container full of cannabis was found in his possession. Back in October 2022, Smith was sent to prison for kicking a woman in between the legs and breaching an indefinite restraining order. He was last in court back in March this year when he was found guilty of a harassment offence. Defending, Nicholas Muir said that Smith was agitated that he wasn’t allowed into the property and that the cannabis found on him was for his personal use only. Magistrates handed Smith an £80 fine and ordered him to pay costs of £85 and a £32 surcharge fee.
