6 WEEKS IN PRISON FOR SUPERMARKET THIEF CAUGHT ON CAMERA

A man who walked out of Morrison’s with a bag of stolen goods yesterday (Monday) before being intercepted by a security guard who clawed back the items has been sent to prison for 6 weeks.  Daniel Drake, 40, of Holyrood Street in Newport, appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court this afternoon (Tuesday) charged with 2x theft from a shop and common assault – all committed on New Year’s Day. At the hearing, Drake admitted stealing £316 worth of goods – mainly alcohol and meat – from Morrison’s as well as goods of a similar nature from Sainsbury’s a short while later. Drake admitted to Police when questioned that he had not long been released from a mainland prison on licence. Magistrates handed the 40-year-old a 6-week prison sentence and ordered he pay a £154 victim surcharge fee.
