Cowes man William Wilkie has been cleared of 4 charges of rape following a trial at the Isle of Wight Crown Court.
55-year-old Wilkie of Bridge Road in Cowes was charged with 4 counts of rape, first appearing before the courts in August. The offences were alleged to have taken place between June 1982 and June 1985 and concerned the alleged rape of a girl under the age of 16-years-old.
Wilkie himself would’ve been a teen at the time of the alleged offences.
The 55-year-old denied the charges at the earliest opportunity and always pleaded his innocence.
In a trial held at the end of last month, a jury found Wilkie not guilty on all counts.
