A group of men have appeared before Isle of Wight Magistrates charged with immigration offences, including smuggling illegal immigrants into the UK via a yacht and attempting to smuggle other illegals in a small boat across the English Channel.
The offences of assisting unlawful immigration relate to 2 separate incidents. According to the South East Regional Organised Crime Unit, between the 17th and 19th March last year, an unknown number of illegal immigrants were successfully brought into the UK onboard a yacht.
It is also alledged that on the 26th and the 27th June last year illegal immigrants were brought into UK waters in a small boat, but were intercepted by French authorities.
It is unknown if the illegal immigrants arrived on the Isle of Wight or elsewhere.
Lord Stephen Kelvin Redhead, 46, of High Street, Shanklin, and Christopher Jason Barber, 54, of Landguard Road, Shanklin appeared before the court earlier today alongside Jean-Pierre Labelle, 44 and formerly of Ryde – but the last defendant, Terence Malja of Pelham Road, Southsea, failed to appear. A warrant for his arrest was subsequently issued.
Lord Redhead is a familiar face to many Islanders, having achieved notoriety as a property developer, along with several publicity stunts including the unveiling of a 10ft statue of his own face in 2007.
No formal pleas were entered during the men’s appearances, and their cases have been adjourned to the Isle of Wight Crown Court on the 12th of July.
Jean-Pierre Labelle, now of Brighton Road, Lewes, has been remanded in custody at HMP Lewes. The other 2 defendants have been bailed.
Should be hung. Traitors and risky vulnerable peoples lives, as this illegals usually work in kitchens and could easily spread their CV not having a been checked to innocents.

Hit them where it hurts, take away there assets, property, cars etcetera. Probably been purchased through illegal activities. Then whack a 10 year prison sentence on them. If they are guilty, they deserve the harshest sentences. I wonder how long this has been going on for? I feel for the poor people who endure being trafficked, humans are not a commodity and anyone who treats them as such needs removing from our society. I hope that if convictions follow then the proceeds of crime office go after all of them to recover any money that should go to their victims. Horrible news, right on our own doorstep.
