A Ryde man who crashed a Mercedes while under the influence of drugs – with a child in the vehicle – has been banned from the road for 3 years.
Back in October, 36-year-old Terry Watts, of Playstreet Lane, pleaded guilty to a total of 4 charges at the Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court, all relating to an incident in Warwick Street, Ryde, earlier in the year year.
As previously reported by Island Echo, a stolen silver A-Class was involved in a crash with a garden wall at just gone 11:00 on Sunday 4th May.
Initial indications at the scene were that the driver had suffered a suspected medical episode at the wheel, possibly related to existing conditions. But he was later arrested by Police on suspicion of drink driving and taking without consent.
Shockingly, an 8-year-old boy was a passenger inside the vehicle at the time of the crash.
The case was delayed to allow a pre-sentence report to be completed.
Appearing before Magistrates for sentencing before Christmas (19th December), Watts was handed a 3 year driving ban.
He was also made subject to a 2-year community order with 20 rehabilitation days attached and ordered to pay compensation of £300.

Technically it was a “medical episode at the wheel”
And was “possibly related to existing conditions”
Really, down to self medication…
So many offences, it’s about time such motorists
should be banned from driving for life.
I should think he is very lucky not to have had Christmas lunch in a cell
I don’t expect it will stop him, or others like him, driving even though he is banned.
What an irresponsible idiot
