30-year-old Douglas Knight has been handed an 8-and-a-half year prison sentence after he falsely imprisoned a woman in woodland at St Lawrence with intent to sexually assault her.
Knight, of Undercliff Drive in Niton, appeared at Portsmouth Crown Court for sentencing this morning (Friday) after he was previously found guilty of committing an offence with intent to commit a sexual offence. In May 2022 he admitted to a charge of false imprisonment.
It was at around 09:30 on 22nd December 2021 that Knight approached the victim in Charles Wood as she was walking her dog. Knight had initially passed the woman before turning to follow her. He began to pet the victim’s dog and chat with her before she continued on the walk.
Knight then grabbed the woman and forced her onto her knees. He tried to cover her face but she managed to bite him before screaming for help. She elbowed him and ran off towards Hunts Road to seek assistance from nearby residents. 
Police were alerted and descended on the area, later arresting Knight nearby.
Today, His Honour Judge Timothy Mousley KC sentenced Knight to 8-and-a-half years in prison and ordered him to sign the Sex Offenders Register for life.
Following the sentencing, DC Amy Hicks said:
“This was an incredibly frightening attack on a woman who was going about her normal daily business. No person in our community should ever be put at risk or have to feel afraid of spending time outdoors in their local area.

“I am pleased that he is now in prison where he belongs, and want to thank the woman involved in this case for her unwavering courage which has resulted in this dangerous man being brought to justice.”
What great presence of mind was shown by this lady who clearly wasn’t going to be an easy target. Years ago it was common to be able to join self defence classes which were very empowering and offset that victim mentality. Judo classes also helped. They need to be brought back in an age where violence against women is still too common.
Or, men just need to stop behaving like this.

This is utterly pathetic and disgusting, the scum will be out in just over 4 years, it is time this country and the government woke up up changed the law to mean you serve the full sentence and not get off with half and concurrent sentencing should be banned, criminals should serve a separate sentence for each crime they commit consecutively otherwise there is no deterrent.
