27FT YACHT TOWED TO SAFETY IN EARLY MORNING RESCUE

bembridgernli400A 27ft yacht was rescued by Bembridge RNLI during the early hours of this morning (Thursday) after it lost all power in a main shipping channel. 

The volunteer lifeboat crew of Bembridge, who live and work in the village, were tasked to launch the all weather lifeboat (ALB) at 02:40 after the National Maritime Operations Centre were alerted to the boat in distress via mobile phone. The leisure vessel did not have any working VHF communications.

The yacht, with 2 crew on board, was located close to Spit Bank Fort at around 03:15 before being towed into Haslar Marina, Portsmouth.

The lifeboat was rehoused at 04:00.
