A 20-year-old motorcyclist – who was caught riding whilst under the influence of drugs – was also riding without a licence or insurance policy, a court has heard. Callum Fry, of Regent Street in Shanklin, admitted driving without a licence, driving without insurance and 2x drug driving when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court earlier this week (9th April). Prosecuting, Liz Miller, told the court that on the 12th September 2o23, Police received information that a male on a motorcycle was riding back home. Officers from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary caught up with Fry on Regent Street, noticing he still had his protective clothing on. Upon seeing the Police, Fry attempted to get back on his bike but officers managed to stop him. Fry initially attempted to evade the officers, refusing to put handcuffs on and kicking out whilst he was being restrained. His bike was subsequently seized – as previously reported by Island Echo. Blood samples collected showed that Fry had illegal levels of both cannabis and benzoylecgonine in his system. Fry was also driving without a licence and insurance. The 20-year-old admitted to all the offences in an interview at Newport Police Station. Defending, Fry’s solicitor Bridget O’Hagen said that her client came across as someone who was extremely ‘naive’ and that Magistrates were highly unlikely to see Fry before the courts ever again. Magistrates handed the 20-year-old a 20-month driving ban and ordered he complete an 18-month community order with a 19-day thinking skills programme, 20 rehabilitation activity days and 80-hours of unpaid work attached. Fry was also ordered to pay costs of £85 and a £114 surcharge fee.

Needs banging up.
Anyone under the influence of drink or drugs whilst driving
= instant imprisonment.
The island should re-open Camp Hill and bang up all
drink and drug drivers.
Make the Island a safe place for everyone.
In the long run, retributivism doesn’t work.
Is that all he got !!!
If you was one of us then your be normal
But when the wasn’t he is
Translate into English please
We’re are the normal one
Again, is this English?
Is English your second language?
No his first language is chalkhead.
If your that proud it is “Caulkhead”! Not chalk head womble.
That is a a stupid childish statement, come back and comment when you have grown up!
Is that English?
This is the standard of English children are taught these days it seems.
And the scum was laughing as he left the court having had his ritual slap on the wrist, this filth should be banned for life and his bike destroyed, given his attitude he will be back on the road soon so after the lifetime ban it should be a mandatory meaningful jail sentence and immediate destruction of whichever vehicle they are caught driving in the future.
Were you there then? Why?
a direct access for a motorbike license on the island is £870 involving two days off the island for Mod 1 and Mod 2. Your telling me I can just ride illegally without insurance and only pay £199 if I get caught drug driving? with only a 20 month suspension?
…And an 18-month community order with a 19-day thinking skills programme, 20 rehabilitation activity days and 80-hours of unpaid work for a first offence? Yes. The IN10 will follow you around for a considerable length of time though.
Are you family?
Ha Ha is ‘naive’ the new defence lawyers excuse for their clients. How much do they charge I wonder?
Don’t brand him a motorcyclists that’s just a great way to get all of us thrown in the same boat and we get it enough as it is
There is ZERO defense for a person that dose this you cannot defend that what any defence lawyer says in court for a person like that is utter nonsensical drivel just to satisfy due process it’s scum like that that cause insurance premiums to be as high as they are for the rest of us that have all nessasary documentation to drive legally, for people that drink and drug drive it should be no defence allowed cos there is no defence 10 years prison without any time off you serve the full 10 year stretch £100,000 fine banned from EVER being allowed to hold a driver’s licence for life a drivers licence is a privilege NOT a right and 70% of the £100,000 fine should go to a fund for compensation to victims of scum that do this.
Continued from bellow the same sentence and legal right to defence for driving with no licence or insurance in fact if your caught drink and or drug driving and you have no licence or insurance as well it should be doubled to £200,000 fine and 20 years prison with zero time off serve the full 20 and banned from EVER getting a licence for life and that’s first offence it will soon get the scum off the roads that endanger the rest of us they could even split the no insurance and no licence into two separate charges with the £100,000 fine and 10 year sentence for each offence so 3 charges 3 sentences to run CONSECUTIVELY not concurrently
This is the same person who rode into my car & then tried to claim off me even though it was not my fault I had to except a 50 50 decision.
Not the first time he has done that done the same to my partner’s car gave me the run around excuse after excuse gave up in the end it was either that or giving him a slap decided in the end my freedom was worth more. Absolutely a vile inconsiderate individual . Should of been given a custodial sentence naive my backside
Defending, Fry’s solicitor Bridget O’Hagen said that her client came across as someone who was extremely ‘naive’
Yes naive enough not to get a licence or insurance I would suggest that may be more than simply naive
