A 19-year-old motorcyclist remains in custody this morning (Wednesday) after being arrested in Shanklin on suspicion of a number of offences, including drug driving.
Officers stopped a motorcycle on Regent Street, near to Shanklin Train Station, at around 21:00 last night.
The rider – a 19-year-old man from Shanklin – was arrested on suspicion of drug driving, driving without a licence and driving without insurance. He was also arrested for assaulting an emergency worker.
His motorcycle was recovered from the scene by the Police’s recovery agents.
The teenager remains in custody at this time.
UPDATE THURSDAY – The 19-year-old has been released under investigation, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed
No doubt a pointless ban for someone who shouldn’t be on the road anyway will be the sentence.
You’re absolutely correct there Grim, a ban would be effectively pointless. As a non law abiding citizen he will continue riding with no license or insurance which wouldn’t be valid anyway.
That bike has an illegal exhaust and has been causing a disturbance for some time. Racing around 2am waking everyone up. Illegally rides a bike and call attention to the fact with a loud exhaust. What a idiot. If the police want an easy win hang out near st john’s in Ryde after 4pm. Will collect more people who should not be on the road. As a restorer of bikes, I know what is legal and not.

We’ve got one (or more) who do exactly the same thing around Colwell. Difficult to get any sleep these days. Never any sign of any police.
It’s incredibly bad around the back of Moa place Queens Road Brookside it stinks of dope and speeding cars bikes with extremely loud exhaust. Then off to race up military road. Meanwhile police cars at least 2 parked near Yarmouth Bridge.
It would be interesting to know what defines an illegal exhaust, fred, and what is the decibel limit if any. We used to shove a broomstick down the exhaust to remove baffles, but I guess after-market adaptations are more sophisticated now. The whine of a two stroke in low gear and at max revs can be frightening as well as infuriating and we seem to get more than our share on the Island. Is reporting offenders any use I wonder?

Yes good on the police about time they arrested this little get all he did was successfully terrify our kitten. I hope they keep him in jail and then through the book at him in court and destroy the bike.
I think this is the idiot who I’ve seen on the Yaverland Road at ridiculous speed. Glad they got him before he killed himself or someone else.

Absolutely brilliant news & has potentially saved some one’s life or at best a major injury. He has been riding that bike at over double the speed limits in built up areas.
Let’s just hope that they follow it up by crushing his bike so he will never be able to use it again.
