A Shanklin man unloaded a tirade of abuse on a female Police Officer has been handed a 24-month community order and been told to pay compensation of £200. Frederick Medway, 32, of Atherley Road in Shanklin, admitted sending by public communication network an offensive message and racially/religiously aggravated intentional harassment when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court today (Friday). Lauren Stone, prosecuting, told the court that on 19th July last year, whilst under Police supervision at St Mary’s Hospital, Medway started verbally abusing a female officer calling her ‘dirty’ and that she wasn’t capable of dealing with things. Medway was taken to a secure room where he launched another tirade of abuse, calling the officers ‘dimlo’, ‘smeagle’ and ‘mowgli’ – to which he asked those in the room if they had ever read the Rudyard Kipling book, The Jungle Book. Medway was told the ‘mowgli’ comment was deemed offensive by the officer in question, but he continued to make it. The 32-year-old made comment about the officer’s handwriting as she was filling out some paperwork saying that ‘her handwriting looked like a cripple had written it’. The unemployed Shanklin man had initially denied committing the offence, but he was found guilty at trial. Separately, on 20th January this year, Medway left a hoard of voice notes to a family member exclaiming dismay that he wasn’t able to see a relative in hospital on the mainland. The court heard how the messages included calling the victim a ‘self entitled pr**k’ and calling them a ‘dirty disrespectful moomin’. In a victim personal statement read aloud in court, the victim said they had considered putting their child into care as a result of Medway’s actions. Defending, Oscar Vincent, told the court that Medway had been registered disabled following a serious road traffic collision back in 2016 and that the medication he has since had to take impacts severely on his mood. Medway has a total of 15 convictions for a total of 40 offences. Magistrates told Medway that he ‘should be disgusted with the language that he used and that it is something he needs to curb’. Frederick Medway was handed a 24-month community order with a 19-day thinking skills programme and 30 rehabilitation days attached. He was ordered to pay compensation of £200.

Thats an atrocious way of utilizing a public communcation network.
I do not approve abuse of any nature towards anyone, the lady officer should of arrested him if not already arrested , cuffed him and gaged him well within her power as a police office for this type of offence
Don’t think it is’ ..well within her power as a police officer ‘ to gag anyone, if gagged is what you meant, Molly.
Bring back the stocks!
ahh medway…

this p rick will end up banged up for years sooner or later
wonder if he is any relation to that paedo – graham medway that got banged up in 2022 for child offences.
Once again we are let down by our courts. The magistrates should be re-trained in how these scum affect the public.
No, you’re let down by the Sentencing Council, lawmakers and Lord Chancellor, Alex Chalk (Tory) who decide the sentencing tariffs. Non-custodial sentences were introduced in an attempt to reduce the prison numbers which have grown steadily for the last 14 years. It’s also why some of the more serious offenders are being released early.
Correct.
But notice how the far right media has manged to deflect the blame away from the real cause, and how the gullible are falling for it.
And IF we took out the recent arrivals and those offspring from those 2nd generation enriched, then our prisons could cope and fitting sentences could occur as they once did.
But you need to blame everything and anyone else but admit the real reason why the ‘coincidence’ of masse arrivals and increase crime, poverty, and disharmony is now prevalent in not only the UK but any country stupid enough to accept never ending unchecked arrivals
yes – 10% of the prisoners in the UK are foreigners – they should simply be deported today – plenty of space then. Also, anyone with a criminal record in their own country or illegally here, should simply be arrested upon detection, taken to an airport/ferry port and dumped back in their own country
I hope he gets what he deserves.
Should possibly have been a 24 month thinking skills programme, and even then….
What’s smell again Karen it’s bit fishy
did someone say something you don’t like?
aww, diddums
No, he said something illegal.
From the distinct lack of normal suspect commentors, this must have been a nasty conundrum. Criminal! Pitchforks!! But also racist, misogynistic….Ummmm…..
Medway sounds like one of the regular commentors.
Too soft punishment yet again.
