A 31-year-old man from Shanklin who told Police he would rape their children whilst he was resisting arrest has been handed an £80 fine at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court.
Frederick Medway, of Atherley Road, appeared before Magistrates on Tuesday morning charged with a total of 4 offences including using threatening/abusive words/behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress and 3x obstructing/resisting a constable in the execution of their duty.
Liz Miller, prosecuting, told the court that on 30th December, Police were called to Medway’s home address after an allegation – not detailed to the court – was made by a female friend. Officers duly responded to the scene and moved in to arrest their suspect, Frederick Medway.
During his arrest, Medway expressed concern about being handcuffed due to an injury so was held by officers, but he was constantly pulling away and even tried to walk off.
With concerns that he had overdosed, the 31-year-old was placed into a cell van and taken to St Mary’s Hospital. It’s at the hospital that Medway started a tirade of abuse towards Police, saying that he would find an officer’s family and rape his children, whilst calling him a ‘bald c**t’, among other things.
Medway told 1 officer that he wanted his wife to die of cancer.
Constantly shouting and swearing, including saying ‘I’ll rape children’, medics refused to treat Medway but ascertained that he was well enough to go to custody.
The court heard that Frederick Medway is no stranger to the justice system having previously been handed a 14-month suspended prison sentence in September 2021 for assaulting emergency workers.
Defending, Oscar Vincent explained to the court that Police had been called to Medway’s home due to an allegation made by his friend of at least 15 years, who had turned up at the address in a distressed state whilst intoxicated on drink and drugs. Mr Vincent went on to detail that it was in 2018 that his client suffered significant injuries following a road traffic collision, which meant he was in significant pain whilst being arrested.
Mr Vincent made a point to the bench that Medway had been in custody for several days over the New Year period having been remanded on New Year’s Eve and put before the remand court in Southampton on 2nd January, where he pleaded guilty to the offences and was given bail.
In sentencing, Magistrates described Medway’s behaviour as abysmal and his language disgusting. They fined him £80 and ordered him to pay £85 costs with a £32 surcharge.

Should have had an accident resisting arrest. These sort need removing from society.
What a total low-life
What ?. If he had made homophobic or racist comments would of got prison sentence ( quite rightly) but a fine of less than a parking charge notice – what are our courts thinks?.
Should have been locked up!! Absolute waste of fresh air! On bout raping kids! Sick
Did you miss the part where he spent 3 days in the cells?
The courts are a absolute joke sure it won’t be long before he’s back in court for another slap on wrist
What planet do our Judges live on…?! Honestly, I think crime pays. No all seriousness this low life should be behind bars.
Another snort/swill/smack head lowlife being allowed to walk around among other people getting away with do-gooder type punishments for assalting others
Our police officers need the support of the courts.
He should get a prison sentence to send out a message.
We are descending into lawlessness.
Ouch…That was bad. Words are very powerful… They should be used with caution,, just dont make your insults personal or judgemental and you can howl at the moon as much as you want !
The world doesn’t need ‘filth’ like him in it. Perhaps he will get a terminal illness,………very soon hopefully!
So you’ll leave in the threat to rape his kids and hoping the copper gets cancer but you censor the word C*nt, in your own words.
Interesting
I’m surprised that the magistrates didn’t apologise to Medway and compensate him out of public funds!
The pride of Shanklin.
The Justice system need a serious look at.
So much time wasting at a huge cost.
So much confusing, inconsistent sentencing, punishments and consequences to crime.
Time for a clean sweep of the justice system.
Yes he’s a vile bigmouth but he’s upset the wrong man in Ryde no more billy big mouth!
