36-year-old Ben Green, an alcoholic who smashed into another car whilst more than 3 times over the drink drive limit, has been slapped with a 2-year driving ban.
Green, of Ash Close in Newport, pleaded guilty to a single charge of drink driving when he appeared before Magistrates back in July.
Now, having appeared at the Isle of Wight Crown Court on Wednesday, he has been sentenced for his actions on the night of 20th June.
As first reported by Island Echo, Police were called to Stroud Wood Road on the outskirts of Ryde when a classic Ford Fiesta collided with a BMW 1-series, which was occupied by a mum and her young child. Thankfully, no injuries were sustained.
Benjamin Green was arrested at the scene having provided a breathalyser reading of 117 – the legal limit being 35.
The matter was adjourned to the Crown Court as Green was subject to a suspended prison sentence at the time of the offence.
Despite fearing he may go to prison, he did not receive a custodial sentence – but was handed a 2-year driving ban and fined £500 by Judge Newton-Price KC.
