2 males who fled the scene of a crash between Whitwell and Ventnor earlier this evening (Sunday) are being sought by Police.
Emergency services were called to Whitwell Road at around 16:55 to reports of a 2-car crash near the junction with St Lawrence Shute, as first reported by Island Echo.
A Mini and a second vehicle collided on a flooded bend, resulting in significant front-end damage to both cars.
3 fire appliances from Ventnor, Shanklin and Newport were mobilised alongside several resources from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
Island Echo can reveal that 2 male occupants of a silver Mini One fled the scene in the direction of Week Lane, with Police now trying to locate the driver and passenger in the rural South Wight.
The 2 occupants of the other vehicle have been taken to St Mary’s Hospital by ambulance.
Whitwell Road remains closed as recovery of the vehicles is undertaken. It means that the only access in and out of Ventnor is via Wroxall for the time being.
UPDATE @ 19:46 – The road has now reopened.
