The Isle of Wight Council has announced that the troubled Cowes Floating Bridge will be out of service for 2 evenings later this month.
‘Planned maintenance’ on Floating Bridge No.6 means that the service will be suspended between 18:00-23:00 on Monday 28th and Tuesday 29th June.
It’s said that the vessel’s prow cables are to be replaced.
The now-usual replacement foot passenger launch will be in operation during the period of suspension, but it means a 10-mile diversion for motorists.
Yesterday (Wednesday) the East Cowes to Cowes service was brought to a halt for 2 hours due to a hydraulic issue, as previously reported by Island Echo.
This morning Island Echo reported that the Council’s controlling Alliance Group are looking at finding a permanent solution to the Floating Bridge, which may mean scrapping and replacing it.
Yet more inconvenience, but i suppose because it ran for part of the day it will be listed as functioning for the whole day.
Send it back for a full refund and get something that IS fit for purpose.
Give the new council a fighting chance lets see what they can sort out with it. We all know that they know we are all peed off with it and they have been dropped in at the deep end so they need a bit of time to decide if it’s fixable or scrap.
I know Wightshipyard build excellent High Speed ferries. They are very close to the Chain Ferry.
Perhaps they can work some magic as they clearly have a great team.
Pity they didn’t build it !
