UPDATED: Around 1700 homes and businesses are without electricity this afternoon (Sunday) following a network fault.
Areas such as Ventnor, Whitwell, Chale and Niton are without power after high voltage lines came down in the rural village of Whitwell. The fault occurred at around 14:00.
Engineers from Scottish and Southern Energy are working to reconnect properties by rerouting the power section by section. This is expected to take several hours.
UPDATE @ 17:55 – Power has been restored to the majority of homes in the area, with just 20 customers still experiencing a loss of supply this evening.
According to an SSE spokesperson, it is hoped all customers will be back on the network within the next hour
