There are now 155 confirmed cases of COVID-19 on the Isle of Wight, Public Health England have confirmed.
New data released this afternoon (Saturday) shows a further 3 cases locally, from 152 yesterday to 155 today.
Increases are not surprising given that a testing facility has been open at Medina now for a couple of weeks, undoubtedly adding to the number of cases being discovered and verified.
With the launch of the new contact tracing app this week, swab tests are now being sent out to any Islander who shows symptoms of coronavirus. This will also lead to an increase in the number of positive tests being recorded.
NHS England report that there have now been 29 coronavirus deaths in hospital, with the Office for National Statistics confirming a further 6 people have died in the community – as of 24th April.
The latest information from the Isle of Wight NHS Trust confirms 25 people have recovered from COVID-19 and have been discharged from hospital.

So the mainstream media are now saying that lockdown may have been a waste of time, and have shown the results of Sweden with no lockdown. Lockdown has been pointless (reported by press) because people didn’t stick to it. From what I can see from my front room (Los Altos park) photo’s in papers etc people have been flouting the rules. It’s almost like people think CV doesn’t exist on the days the sun is out. Which is frustrating for the people who have stuck to the rules. I think the fact that the press are reporting that the numbers on IOW are low is giving people the impression that it is safer than it is. Per 100,000 of the population our numbers are not as low as some would think/ much lower than other areas. Once schools open I can see this spreading much quicker. I would hate to see teachers be the next group hit hard by this horrible virus. If a school is 2 form entry, with R, yr1 and yr6 returning that is potentially 180 children plus their parents (some of who will hang around to chat with their friends they have not seen for some time). Children are known to be super spreaders. I think if we all wore a mask keeping our germs to ourselves surely in turn protecting each other. I know we can’t buy masks because NHS/care staff need them (and most people can’t afford because sadly to many are making money from CV/people dying). There are many people in a position to make home made masks for themselves/others. I am not a scientist and am sure some people will disagree. But I do know that this is killing people and leaving people with long term health problems of all ages.
A report says CIA and GCHQ have been eavesdropping mobile calls at the lab at Wuhan.
