£120 FINE FOR NEWPORT MAN FOUND WITH COCAINE IN HIS POSSESSION

A Newport man who was stopped by Police and found to be in possession of 3 wraps of cocaine has been fined £120. Harry Turnbull, 32, of Pyle Street, admitted possession of a controlled drug of Class A when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on Friday (26th April). Lauren Stone, prosecuting, told the court that on 29th November, at around 11:25, Turnbull was stopped in his van and was subsequently searched. During the search a foil wrap of white powder and 2x cigarette packets containing white powder were found in a leather bag. Tests carried out proved that these substances were indeed cocaine. Defending, Oscar Vincent told the court that the drugs found in Turnbull’s possession were for social use only and that he is no longer using cocaine. Turnbull – who has 26 convictions for a total of 57 offences – previously appeared on Island Echo in December 2022 after he was ordered to pay a mega compensation fee for smashing up cars in a drunken rampage. The 32-year-old spent the majority of 2023 in prison before being released in November, just prior to committing this offence. Magistrates handed Turnbull a £120 fine and ordered him to pay costs of £85 and a £48 surcharge fee.
