Exactly a year ago today (Wednesday) 98-year-old Kenneth Killeen became the first Islander to be vaccinated against COVID-19, with a staggering 112,000 others taking up the offer of vaccination since.
An army of vaccinators have been supported by volunteers over the past 12 months to roll out 111,956 first doses, 104,389 second doses and over 63,800 third/booster jabs across the Isle of Wight – all part of the biggest immunisation programme in history. That means in excess of 280,000 vaccinations have been administered on the Island, with 85.4% of those aged 12 and over receiving at least 1 dose of the vaccine.
Thanks to the efforts of medics, volunteers and the public, the Isle of Wight and the UK is in a much safer, stronger position than in 2020, paving the way for a normal Christmas with loved ones.
Across the South East, more than 16million doses have been administered into the arms of residents – the second-highest performing region in the whole of England.
Caroline Reid, Regional Director of Commissioning and Senior Responsible Officer (SRO) for the COVID-19 Vaccination programme for NHS England South East, has said:
“I am truly humbled by the efforts of everyone who has contributed to the Covid-19 vaccination roll out in South East region.
“Thanks to everyone’s unfailing support, dedication, care, compassion and hard work – we have sprinted like Usain Bolt, run several marathons and delivered the largest vaccination programme in the NHS’s history.
“It is important, as we embark on another sprint to deliver booster jabs by the end of Decemmber that no one is left behind and every community and individual are offered the life-saving covid vaccinations”.
People are urged to continue to support the vaccination programme, to take up the offer of having their first or second vaccinations if they have been invited but have not yet done so and, if eligible, book up for their booster jab.
You can book your COVID-19 booster online if it’s been 3 months since you had your second dose. All adults over the age of 18 should be jabbed by 31st December.

And yet there are those that still haven’t had even one yet. Why, because they are to selfish, egotistical and self important to care about anyone they are near or have to work with. Yes there are those that can’t because of valid medical grounds, but those who just say “oh I’m not having a clot shot” are just so full of themselves most of the time, they just stick 2 fingers up at everyone else. Bring on mandatory vaccines for ALL shop workers and anyone who deals with the public. No exemptions unless medically proven, not just “oh I don’t want it”
But if the vaccine works why are you worried about the people that won’t have it? The people who don’t want it understand the risks and shouldn’t get special treatment if they fall ill.
Totally agree with Not a Sheep. Well said. The whole vaccine and booster programme has been brilliant even with the few little hiccups along the way but unfortunately there will always be the ignoramusus and downright selfish covidiots who don’t give a damn about anything or anyone else (we all know some!!) If Boris does cancel Christmas again it will be all down to them.
It isn’t just that people are being selfish some people are genuinely scared about having the vaccines after reports of people dying from them. There is so much contradictory information and confusion. If people can still catch it and spread it even if they’ve had the vaccines, then surely that raises questions? When people genuinely can’t have these vaccines for medical reasons, then what are they doing? Are they shut away somewhere? We’re not told anything about that sort of thing.
a sheep is weak and easily herded. So….
when you regale us with the long term safety data, then I may consider being injected with a concoction of chemicals.
The injection is designed to prevent serious symptoms and/or death in those most likely to be affected. One in three show no symptoms, the vast majority have nothing more than flu like symptoms and there is only a small percentage that are likely to be at risk.
As the jabs do not prevent transmission and do not prevent you getting covid, then demanding that someone else take a risk with their body and health to suit your authoritarian and aggressive agenda is ludicrous and disgusting.
People have died from jabs!
100% agree with you there Not a Sheep.
Two weeks to flatten the curve wasn’t it?
Lost faith in the covid vaccination! Had two and will not be having anymore.
I have had three jabs, to help protect others etc even tho in my opinion I did not need them.
But there is no way on earth that I am getting my 12 year old jabbed just so he does not infect the elderly.
The world can go and spin as far as I’m concerned !
Maybe, just maybe, we should just let nature take its course.
But people with the jab still carry the virus. Also if the vaccine works surely they would be protected and there’s nothing to worry about?
Nope, don’t jab the kids full stop.
Let nature protect them.
You have to draw a line in the sand somewhere.
Use me as a pin cushion because I don’t give a f**k but ” hay, leave those kids alone ! “
fool – jollop – why would you put your own health at risk, where people have died from taking a jab with no long term safety data available. Survival rate, globally for covid is 99.98% – unless you feel that you are in the 0.02% at risk of death for covid, then taking a jab is pointless.
you will of course have noted that famous comedian jethro, died yesterday of covid. He is also reported as having had both jabs and his booster
And quite a severity of co-morbidity factors there too. .
No great loss there then.
Fine, go ahead and play Russian roulette with your own health, but not with others. How many national infections recorded today,78,000 ???
Bit like your comment. Pointless.
Here they are with their righteous indignation crawling out of their primeval bogs, all the selfish me me me and sod everyone else brigade. I rest my case. Have the jabs and booster, encourage your loved ones to follow suit to protect others and if you feel that you are actually one of the minority who is right please walk around with a big sign on you stating that belief so that the rest of us who actually care about others can keep clear of you.
…. Keep doing as your told, that’s a good sheep!
But if you need to keep clear the vaccine doesn’t work lol
the NHS admitted that most of the hospitalised cases of covid are in those that are already double jabbed – hammer ..it is the vaxed that should be walking around with a sign on, not the rest.
And again I’ll remind you that the double jabbed and booster can still catch the virus and also spread it. The omicron variant is a weaker Covid virus as stated by WHO and Africa where it originated. This government of ours is posting false figures for their own agenda to control you. Yes the omicron is spreadable but no worse than the flu. Yes flu can unfortunately kill the old and weak but we have put up with that for years. For Christ’s sake people wake up to the lies put out by this despicable government for their own agenda. Yes stay safe this Covid is weakening thank god and the government don’t want this.
Good point mine fuhrer. You tell ‘em.
Congratulations and Happy Christmas
I baited the hook and cast my line out and was proved right. Well done to the covidiots who responded to my e-mail and showed just how selfish you are. Look at the statistics and how the numbers are multiplying, then take a long hard look at yourselves. Hopefully we will all be able to have a happy Christmas.
