Firefighters have tackled a small fire in the woods at East Cowes Esplanade – thought to have been set by youths.
1 appliance from Newport was mobilised to the seafront at around 18:50 this evening (Sunday) after members of the public alerted fire control to smoke issuing from woodland.
Retained firefighters have used water backpacks to extinguish the fire and dampen down the surrounding area, measuring approximately 2mx2m.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service has been called to tackle similar fires in the same woodlands on numerous occasions.
Speaking about tonight’s incident, an eyewitness has told Island Echo:
”I saw a big group of kids legging it out [of the woodland] when the fire brigade turned up”.
Earlier today, Ryde firefighters were mobilised to Firestone Copse near Havenstreet – a popular spot for dog walkers – when a fire was reported in amongst the trees. Water Backpacks were also used to tackle that incident.
Firefighters from Newport – both wholetime and retained – have also attended an oven fire at a residential address on Fieldfare Road, Carisbrooke this evening.

Yeah usual low life feral brat scum. All the time the do gooders keep kissing their asses because of ”their age” B/S, and all the time the DWP keep them funded, sod all will change, and all of us who have paid in all our lives, will get screwed out of more and more to finance it.The country needs to bring back borstals.
The annoying thing is the majority of these teens
parents are probably living a life of riley on
benefits and let their teens do whatever they want!
Shocking, STOP their benefits, that would help
solve the problem and yes bring back borstals to
house the uneducated teens causing disruption.
Such a shame, East Cowes Seafront is coming
on a treat lately.
I had family staying in the Caravan site, gorgeous
sea views, but there are lots of feral teens
up to no good walking along the seafront.
Who sells vapes to teenagers, they all seem
to have them.
We need stricter laws dealing with persons
who start fires, whatever age they are!
These teens been up there with loud music with portable speakers for last few days so not surprised on the fire but the smell of cannabis was very strong Sunday. Hope the parents know where their teen is going…..but I doubt it as atleat 20 plus kids
