With less than 24 hours until the polls open, Cameron Palin, Green party candidate for the county council ward of Osborne, is urging young people to get out and vote, irrespective of their political beliefs.
In the last county council elections just 41% of Islanders voted, meaning a massive 59% did not. Tomorrow, polling stations will open from 07:00-22:00 when you will have the opportunity to cast your vote on who you want running the Isle of Wight Council for the next 4 years.
Cameron explains:
“Many people ask, what is the importance of a local councillor? Your local councillor is there to represent you and stand up for the local community, dealing with roads, education, children’s services, litter and flytipping, housing, regeneration and so many other important services that we could not live without.
“This election is vital to decide who we want to represent us and to decide who delivers the change that we want to see.
“For too long young people and young families have not been represented, this is why I have decided to stand to make a positive change in our community and to represent you. If you are registered to vote, but especially those aged 18 to 30, I urge you to go out this Thursday, the 6th of May. Go out and Vote for a candidate that will represent you the best and make sure young peoples voices are heard in County Hall.”

and what have the other politicians been doing – the one in the picture has probably been doing his homework for teacher.
Maybe if we had a voting system that created a fair representation. As long as you have a proportion of the island voting troy for no reason other than that they think it makes them middle class then we’re done. They just need the most votes, not a majority.
I will vote, because it is my democratical duty,bit like going to the doctor’s, people who can’t be bothered to vote, don’t moan,as you have no right to, end of !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
