Parents of children at Haylands Primary School in Ryde have been informed of a single confirmed case of COVID-19 within the school community.
Just days before Christmas, pupils in Year 2 have been instructed to self-isolate for a period of 10 days – until 27th December.
The school has written to parents this evening following confirmation of the positive COVID-19 case from Public Health England.
It’s unclear at this stage how many pupils have been told to stay at home and whether or not any staff have been affected.
UPDATE MONDAY – It has been confirmed that a total of 68 pupils and 8 staff are now self-isolating.

Worrying as this mutant strain is seven times more contagious than the original, which, in itself was very contagious compared to flu. The fear is that if it mutates further it could affect the young as it does the elderly.
Best hope the vaccine we have reaches us all before such happens. Then we should be alright.
Can’t help thinking that is ‘seems’ to be an incredulous coincidence that this NEW strain of C v is almost only in the UK, and, arrives on the very week that the UK and EU are on the final days of deciding whether to have a deal or not.
I wonder if, after years of trying to break the B ritish public with operation ‘fear’ which was verbal and failed, they are now going to do something more ‘physical’ and by blocking flights and ports, they will try to give the UK a ‘taste’ of what ‘they say’ will happen IF a no deal decision is reached.
Don’t forget, there are many politicians who don’t want to lose their ties with the EU easy money, easy jobs for them and their offspring by being ‘fully out’ and would do ‘whatever it takes’ to remain in.
Trust no one.
