Yarmouth-based Herapath Shenton Trust (HST) has partnered with Maritime Archaeology Trust (MAT) to create the Yarmouth Community Foundation (YCF), a charity, for the express purposes of holding the former Yarmouth Primary School for community and educational use in perpetuity.
This new foundation has put in a substantial bid to the Isle of Wight Council for the school site. If successful they will consult and work with all members of the local and Isle of Wight community to develop their plans for the benefit of education, local needs, housing, jobs and community use in a way that is sustainable and environmentally friendly.
The Maritime Archaeology Trust currently runs the long-established and successful Isle of Wight Shipwreck Centre (SWC) at Arreton Barns.
It will re-locate this to the Yarmouth school buildings as an anchor tenant of the Yarmouth Community Foundation to ensure sustainability by establishing a new leading centre of excellence for Maritime Archaeology in the UK.
The YCF will work with partners to develop social housing (subject to planning), along with education, cultural, small enterprise and community group uses including the Scouts and Guides.
They will be holding an open meeting on 19th September at 19:00 at the Community Hall of Yarmouth and District and the Maritime Archaeology Trust Discovery Bus will be open for visitors on the Harbour Quayside, Courtesy of the Yarmouth Harbour Office.

Sadly delusional, just like YTC, this has 2nd home & developers written all over it .. Yarmouth is finished ..
The council won’t let that happen. More homes for imports.
Old School the council have wanted this asset for years .. and will never allow anything other than developers to make a fortune .. IWC have to pay the loan back for the Freshwater school .. YTC have no chance, just trying to salvage some credibility.. too little too late ..
