Police are appealing for the public’s help following a robbery in Brighstone this week, which is now known to have involved a knife.

As previously reported by Island Echo, a number officers responded to the sleepy village of Brighstone at lunchtime on Thursday following a robbery at The Village Shop.

Hampshire Constabulary has now launched an appeal for witnesses as they piece together the events of Thursday afternoon.

It’s said that shortly before 12:30, a man entered the village store on Main Road before threatening staff with a knife.

The suspect stole a set of scales but did not get away with any cash or goods. The scales have since been recovered.

Police would like to speak to a man who was seen in the area at the time in connection with the incident. He is described as white, around 6ft tall and was wearing a grey chequered blanket.

Officers would also like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and saw or heard anything, particularly the man described, around the time of the offence or leaving the area.

A 38-year-old man from the Isle of Wight arrested on suspicion of robbery has now been released on conditional police bail
