Newport Town Centre is now awash with colour, thanks to an initiative from Newport Business Association and Care In The Garden.
There are hanging baskets now fitted at many businesses and locations in the town, decked out in a blue, yellow and white colour scheme. These are obviously colours often associated with Newport and they reflect colours relating to NHS (blue and white) and positivity (yellow).
Those baskets are filled with flowers from leading charity Care In The Garden. Directors John Goodenough and Gill Smith explain their desire to be involved:
“The past 18 months have been a torrid time and we need to welcome people back to our town centres to pick up their regular pattern of life again. We are delighted to help out and add some warmth to Newport town centre.“
The initiative is titled Blooming Well Together and the idea has come from Newport Business Association member, Fiona Brown, from The Dapper Chap on Upper St James Street.
“Hanging baskets and adding some colour to life can be really uplifting for people. Newport businesses have missed seeing people and interacting with them. It is important that people see Newport town centre as an enjoyable place to be.”
Fiona has also been successful in involving Newport primary schools to create artwork to show in many shop windows. This artwork also followed the same blue, white and yellow colour scheme and has added to the colourful impact in the town centre.
