Sunday 6th June saw the long-awaited return to organised running events on the Isle of Wight, with the West Wight Road Runners Club taking full advantage.

Managed by the West Wight Sports Centre as part of the Isle of Wight Festival of running, the Needles Half Marathon has always been hotly anticipated by the West Wight Road Runners as one of its ‘backyard’ races.

The club saw 10 of its members enter and several more provide the invaluable role of marshalling. The scenic 13.1-mile route provided challenges for the runners with multi-terrain, punishing hills, sapping sun and disorientating mist at the top of Tennyson downs. All 10 runners finished the course in very respectable times.
