Cross-Solent operator Wightlink has announced that it intends to reinstate Victoria of Wight to service ‘later this week’, but no exact date has been given.
As previously reported by Island Echo, the flagship was pulled from service on Monday afternoon after a ‘heavy berthing’ at Fishbourne, which caused damage to the ferry’s prow.
Surveyors have since undertaken an inspection of the vessel at Portsmouth and engineers are now working on the required repairs.
It’s been confirmed that Victoria of Wight is expected to return to service on the Fishbourne-Portsmouth route later this week. In the meantime, traffic is building on both sides of the Solent as the company makes do with its remaining vessels by means of a shuttle service.
Wightlink apologies to customers for delays to its services on Monday afternoon and evening.
Why don’t Wightlink pull the other ferry Wight Light round from Lymington to cover some of the shortfall?
As on previous occasions, perhaps?
Well it is moored up in Lymington doing nothing and they must have enough crew as the Victoria of Wight is being repaired.
