The red squirrels of Ventnor have inspired local resident Elsie Bee to write an exciting new story for school children.
‘Danger For Red’ tells the tale of a mischievous, young red squirrel called Red who finds himself miles away from home and at the mercy of a host of ferocious predators.
It is a gripping tale of survival that will absorb young readers – or an ideal bedtime story for parents to read aloud.
Elsie explains how the story came about…
“Our first island home was adjacent to a small wood on the outskirts of Ventnor. The wood was home to a variety of wild animals, several of which visited our garden on a daily basis. In particular, an unusually red squirrel we named Red (the hero in my story); a very noisy pheasant known as Squawky; a bossy robin and a grumpy old badger we called Badger Bill. Their visits brought us hours of entertainment and much joy.
“Indeed, it’s true to say that these colourful characters inspired and now feature in my story.”
Danger for Red is available to buy from Amazon bookstore priced at £4.99 or to download as an e-book for £1.99
