A number of vehicles have been badly damaged in a hit-and-run incident in Shanklin tonight (Friday) after a Transit van crashed into parked cars – with the driver failing to stop.
Police were called to Sandown Road – between Shanklin and Lake – at around 21:45 to reports of a road traffic collision.
A Ford Focus will undoubtably be written off as a result of the damage sustained in the smash, which has seen the car shunted into 2 other vehicles.
Island Echo is told that the driver of the offending vehicle – a Ford Transit dropside – drove away from the scene and turned up Newport Road.
The van has since been located on Lake Industrial Estate opposite Morrisons and it’s believed that the male driver has been detained by Police.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has been approached for a statement, with an update expected on Saturday morning.

He should be made to pay for the damage he caused & costs of replacing the cars he wrote off, the insurance companys should not have to pay out,if he is unemployed his money should be stopped till everything is paid for.
That’s what we have insurance for…. Hopefully his truck won’t get paid for, but the other damage will.
my husbands car got hit by a lorry while on our driveway. he was told to claim from his own insurance (as that’s what he pays it for) he was told by his insurance company that if he did he policy will go up the following year… the referd him to solicitors who took it to court and the lorry company insurance paid up

Probably thought had hit pot (pot!.) hole. Could of hit cyclist or pedestrian.
