Firefighters from Freshwater have extinguished an unattended fire in remote, hard-to-access woodland near Totland this evening (Thursday).
1 appliance was mobilised to the scene at around 17:10.
Thankfully, on this occasion, the fire hadn’t spread and the single crew extinguished it with sea water collected using buckets.
Unfortunately, the area was littered with rubbish and broken glass which had been discarded and strewn around.
Firefighters have said the advice is simple – do not start fire in the countryside and take your rubbish home with you.

Thank God they told them. That will stop them doing that again………..Won’t it?
That
s a clever way of putting out a fire, Dowse. Id just douse it, so to speak.
