Great news – will save going to the rip off giant orange shed in Newport.
Yes I bought a load of stuff at B & Q costing well over £70, if I could of got at it all at Hurst, it would have come to only £45.
Yippee! As you say the ‘orange shed’ was ripping us off. I couldn’t believe how much they wanted for a simple product like sandpaper!
Yay!
Thank God!!!
This is great news. The staff at Ventnor (except for Mr Grumpy) have always been so friendly, obliging…quirky! I’m never made to feel embarrassed even if I pop in there for only a couple of nuts and bolts costing 25p. They are like an extended family to me, so much so that I sometimes have to remind myself they are not actually my family and I should not loiter around the cash register near the doorway trying to join in the chat and pick up any local gossip. I hope they forgive me for that and don’t think I am being rude (maybe I can get a job there?). Hursts is a lovely shop and as much a part of Ventnor as the Winter Gardens and Ventnor pier. I used to spend a lot of time in the library when my kids were growing up but now I am happy to spend almost as much time wandering around Hursts Ventnor where I can find all manner of useful items – fingerless gloves, kettles, fly spray, batteries, place mats……I could go on. I do worry however that with all this social distancing things may not be the same as they were before. 🙁 I hope I am wrong…..I for one look forward to stepping back into my favourite shop next week in the whole of Ventnor and hi-fiving all the gang (except perhaps Mr Grumpy – I might give him a hug).
An interesting store, where they always seem to have more staff than customers.
BUT are very helpful, knowledgeable and good prices.
Amazed they keep going, but so glad they do.
We should all support them.
Great as a retired employee I can’t wait to give them some stick
All about choice at B& Q Always found the prices really competitive compared to the pokey hardware shops.
Me and Bert goes into the ryde one. We go to b and q sometimes, but the staff there are not very well informed, the prices on some items are fine, but on hardware items Hursts are much cheaper and often a better range of qualities ranging from cheap chinese to decent british made items.
We should support our local shops as rare now.
Cat got fleas so will go get some flea powder, the heat brings them out.
You obviously haven’t tried our Newport branch.See you soon.
Now that is GOOD news 🙂 i will be there getting things for the house, shed and garden.
The orange shed does have its uses, but you just can’t beat Hursts on many an item.
YaY I have missed Hurst’s, Shanklin…….they are the best and the staff always help me out and Never grumpy……
No more getting ripped off…..
I pop in to the Ryde store quite often. They’re always helpful and pleased to see me. Nice to have a more traditional hardware store surviving in this modern retail age not to mention the practical and helpful staff. Will pop in again tomoz! Thanks for re-opening quickly!
