Tributes have been paid to Councillor Adrian Axford, who has sadly passed away in his sleep.
The Conservative councillor served the Ryde North West ward.
Cllr Axford recently suffered a stroke and although he was recovering, he was suddenly taken ill and passed away in his sleep.
Isle of Wight Council leader Dave Stewart made the sad announcement earlier this evening (Thursday).
Paying tribute to his fellow councillor, Cllr Stewart said
“I am sure anybody who has had any dealings with Adrian will know this is a sad loss of someone who has been a councillor locally and for the Isle of Wight Council for sometime and has given so much to his community.
“He will be sadly missed.
“I wish to publicly extend my condolences to his family at this very sad time”.

Isle of Wight MP Bob Seely has said:
“I am very very sad to learn of Adrian’s passing.
“It was a pleasure and honour to have known Adrian and to have worked with him.
“It was evident that he was highly regarded in the community and was seen as a diligent public servant, working for the good of the town. Personally, I found him a kind, considerate and thoughtful man, popular with everyone.
“My thoughts are with his wife Anne, along with Gary, Rhys and the wider family at this time.”
