A motorcyclist is being treated for injuries sustained in a crash in Newport Town Centre – thought to have been caused, in part, by faulty traffic lights.
Police and paramedics are on scene in the heart of the county town, where a motorcyclist has collided with a VW Polo.
Emergency services were alerted to the incident at just before 20:30.
It’s noted that traffic lights at the junction of St James’ Street and High Street are marked as being out of action.
However, Island Echo understands the biker clocked the lights being out of action but then actually accelerated on the approach, colliding directly into the side of the Polo travelling down the High Street.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service is on scene tending to the rider.
Others involved are said to be shaken.
The vehicles are being cleared from the carriageway to get the road reopened. In the meantime, traffic is being diverted locally.
Southern Vectis Routes 1, 6, 7 and 12 are on diversion.
Nothing like victim blaming eh ? ‘ Island Echo understands the biker ‘clocked’ !? The lights were out”…How does the I E understand this? Tell us what proof you have, or is it all conjecture? Journalism at it’s worst.
Nothing surprises me, majority of island
motorists NEVER stop when lights are red anyway.
The island is a DINOSAUR, most places in the
UK have Camera’s above traffic lights to
STOP people jumping lights.
It’s about time the island moved into the 21st
century and installed Camera’s above all
traffic lights.
I’d have to agree. You see this even more when a bike is involved so they don’t blame the bike. If a light isn’t working it’s treated as a stop so bike fault from looks of it
Well, the lights were not green were they?
Provisional Driver.
He accelerated into a junction? Lights working or not …..
Think bike, think twat!
Don’t cyclists look where they are going?
Majority of them are Numpty’s.
You are right, some motorcyclists are indeed numptys!
You only have to go along the Military Road to
get proof, the uneducated Numpty’s park in the
car park nr Blackgang then they go on their
death trips.
Why the police don’t patrol the Military Road
I don’t know, just shows how lawless island roads
are.
It was a MOTORCYLE involved in the accident.
Always give way to vehicle from the right say no more
That is the way peope drive on the mainland, not
on the island, they are all over the show.
