An operation to extricate a patient from the upper floors of a property in the heart of Newport has led to a busy part of the town centre being cordoned off.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service is working alongside the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service to remove a poorly individual from a building in St Thomas’ Square.
Firefighters are utilising an Aerial Ladder Platform to reach a top floor window, with a view to sliding the patient out on a stretcher.
The incident began around midday and has seen Aerial Ladder Platforms and an appliance mobilised, alongside a duty officer.
St Thomas’ Square is currently cordoned off between High Street and Pyle Street.
UPDATE – The incident has drawn to a conclusion and all cordons have been lifted.
The patient has been conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital.
