Police are investigating the theft of 3 bicycles from a campsite on the Isle of Wight overnight.
Holidaymakers awoke this morning (Monday) to discover all 3 of their road bikes had been stolen from Southland Caravan Park, situated between Newchurch and Winford.
The theft off Winford Road is said to have occurred at some point between Sunday night and this morning.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary has told Island Echo:
“We’ve received reports of three bicycles having been stolen overnight on 18 July into 19 July at Southland Caravan site on Winford Road.
“We encourage anyone with information, or who has been affected, to contact police on 101 quoting 44210285424”.

Newchurch is twinned with Villianville France. Perhaps Newchurch should be renamed Villanville. But my guess is that it was another camper in a motorhome leaving early the next morning, maybe, who knows…
Strange that the same thing happened this time a year ago ! It came up in my memories on Facebook from last year !!
Next year go to Spain, cheaper, better roads and nicer people who genuinely like you, not just your wallet contents
Many rogues and theives stalk the island now. They should have chained these bikes together and securely attached them to a wheel of a car or around a tree.
It is the theives when or more likely IF caught who need to be chained to a wheel of a car or a tree, but kindness now replaces punishment, and it is really working………NOT
They were travelling by bike so didn’t have a car, a solid lock won’t go around a tree (assuming there was one nearby) and bike thieves will cut through any other kind of lock. I know, they did it to me for a less valuable bike than these ones. Please can we stop with the victim blaming. Thanks. I am so sorry these holidaymakers have had this horrible experience here. I hope the bikes and the thieves are found.
stop with the victim blaming. They should be able to leave their bikes and expect them to be there later. Also bike locks only work for a short amount of time. Most can be picked in less than a minute.
I’m so sorry to hear what happened to these holidaymakers. Unfortunately, crime here on the island has shot up recently, largely in parallel with the establishment of ‘County Lines’ drug suppliers.
It’s got so bad that me and my neighbours don’t report it going on anymore, as nothing is ever done about it, fed up with being ignored.
If you aren’t getting any satisfaction from local police, contact Donna Jones, police and crime commissioner for Hampshire and Isle of Wight.

Thank you for that, I will do so; though if our repeated reports of drug running in our area to 101 are ignored, I don’t hold out much hope. – Bikers roar round West Wight most evenings, distributing the stuff, which one can smell being consumed throughout the area. We have even seen children become users.
Not enough police. maybe if the government spent our tax money on us and protected us from crime they would still have their bikes.
Far too much of crime money is spent on jailing overseas beings and then paying out a fortune for their numerous offspring and wive (s) to be kept and vist the trash.
SEE it how it really is and where our money is all going nowadays.
