A busy road in the East Wight has become one-way this morning (Tuesday) which means traffic disruption for motorists for the next 7 weeks.
Contractors MMB Networks are undertaking work on The Broadway in Sandown between 08:00-18:30 each day but the road will remain closed to through traffic heading southbound around the clock.
Motorists heading between Brading and Shanklin will be diverted via Avenue Road, High Street and Beachfield Road to rejoin at The Heights junctions. The Broadway remains open for traffic heading northbound.
Work will continue until Friday 28th May – just as the country unlocks and tourists start arriving on the Isle of Wight.
Local residents are being warned that rubbish collections will still take place on the normal days, but all rubbish will be collected prior to work starting at 08:00.
Pedestrian access to all properties will be maintained and vehicular access for residents, as well as deliveries, will be possible for essential access.

This has been done before and works much better so hopefully it won’t be too much hassle over the next 7 weeks
