Red Funnel has cancelled timetabled sailings on its vehicle ferry service for the second weekend in a row due to yet more technical issues.
Just like Thursday morning, the cross-Solent operator has had to cancel early morning sailings on its East Cowes-Southampton route this morning (Saturday).
The 08:00 from Southampton and the 09:30 from East Cowes have both been pulled – and it remains to be seen if there will be any further disruption as the day progresses.
The issue relates to a cooling pump on board Red Eagle – the same ferry that caused last weekend’s disruption on its first day back in service after a protracted refit.
Sister ship Red Falcon is due to head off to Falmouth later this month for further works to ensure reliability and resilience ahead of the Summer season. Her departure to dry dock will mean a revised timetable (back to Winter) between 22nd April-19th May.
UPDATE @ 09:29 – A further 4 sailings have been cancelled as Red Eagle remains out of service.
It has been confirmed that the 11:00 and 14:00 sailings from Southampton have been cancelled, as well as the 12:30 and 15:30 from East Cowes.
The issue is said to be with the cooling pump which maintains the optimal operating temperature of the engine.
UPDATE @ 12:44 – The cancellations continue with the 17:00 and 20:15 now cancelled, alongside the 18:30 and 21:45 from East Cowes.

This is failing to be news anymore. We be more news-like if they said that the ferries were running on time with no breakdowns. erm Still no accounts showing. Compulsory strike off if they don’t do it.
What are you talking about – have I missed something?
There accounts filing at companies house is way overdue, usually if a company does that they are struck off as a viable business. Just like Smokin’ Jacks in Wroxall.
Whilst I am aware that there seemed to be a ‘mass’ departure of Directors last year I cannot understand just how Fran Collins is still in place as CEO!
Corruption and power and money..
Ye great cheers for that please put up for sale..
