UPDATED: Firefighters from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have tackled a summerhouse fire in Freshwater this evening (Sunday).
2 appliances from Freshwater and Newport were mobilised to an address on Bay Road at 18:15 following a 999 call.
Crews wearing breathing apparatus have brought the incident under control.
UPDATE @ 20:14 – It has been confirmed that the fire was caused by sunlight being amplified through a magnifying lamp, which in turn caused paper and fabric to ignite.
Crews wearing breathing apparatus removed burning items from inside the outbuilding and extinguished them in the garden, resulting in the majority of the remaining items inside the building being saved.
The summerhouse has sustained smoke damage, but remains structurally intact.
