The Wightlink-Wight Mountain Cycle Race Team had another successful week of racing on the mainland.
Following his win last week, Stuart Waite competed again in the 3rd Cat race at the Mountbatten Circuit, Portsmouth in the hope of securing more points towards his 2nd Cat licence. He put in another strong performance, controlling the race from the start and keeping the bunch together. At the bell he found himself on the front of the bunch and just got rolled on the line to take 2nd place overall.
The final round of the RCR Fat Creations series was held at Goodwood on Thursday and the team were out in force to support Kev Chant who was lying in 3rd place in the overall standings after 2 rounds. Matt Allsopp and James Veal, who had worked hard for Kev in the previous rounds, were joined by teammates Joe Staunton and Stuart Waite.
The race was fast and furious, with the riders averaging a speed of 29mph over the 12 laps, but Kev was well protected from the sudden attacks and also managed to pick up valuable points in the Primes (sprints). He powered home to take 4th place after a hard-fought race, securing a well-deserved 3rd Overall podium place.
Stuart Waite also competed in the 3rd Cat race on the night, along with Jerry Cooper. Another superb performance, with Stuart attacking from the chicane on the last lap to take the sprint and a well-earned win.
