With the help of colleagues from across the Isle of Wight, Southern Co-op’s funeralcare team from Shanklin held their first ever fun dog show last Sunday (2nd September).
The event, which was held at the Scout Hut in Mitten Road, Bembridge, was a great success with more than £350 raised for charity.
As well as man’s best friend showing off their best smiles and party tricks, visitors enjoyed a guess the name of the puppy game, a raffle and refreshments.
This year’s event was raising funds for Miss Isle and the MissIsle School of sip-puff sailing as part of Southern Co-op’s community engagement programme, ‘Love Your Neighbourhood’.
Karen Cooper, Funeral Co-ordinator at Southern Co-op, said:
“The weather was glorious and we had about 25 dogs competing. Bob from Wight Event First Aid & Training volunteered his time but thankfully he wasn’t needed. Steve from Oscar Pet Food kindly donated all the first prizes and Helen from Calm Dog Training Academy did the judging.
“All the dogs were on their best behaviour except one which nearly bit the judge! But the judge took it in her stride and even went on to give the dog second place in ‘the dog the judge would most like to take home’ category. Natasha from MissIsle School of sip-puff sailing came along with her mum and sister and managed to talk her mum into getting them a dog!
“All in all the day was a huge success with everyone enjoying themselves and we raised a grand total of £381.20.”
