The challenge of crossing the Solent in a swan pedalo – one of the more unusual Isle of Wight charity fundraisers this summer – was a surprising success on Saturday.
2 teams commandeered a pair of swan pedalos from Ryde Canoe Lake before setting them free into the sea, all in the name of raising money for the Waterside Community Trust.
It took the teams just 3 hours to pedal their way from Ryde to Southsea – a distance of just over 4 miles – during the first-ever ‘Swan the Solent’ event.
Ben Wood, Glenn Beynon, Scott Miles, Georgina Walker, David Walker, Aaron Isted and Rachel Harley split themselves in a team of 4 and a team of 3 to take on the epic challenge.
Safety cover was provided on the day by Tim Griffin, Jane Griffin and Todd Miller at Griffin Marine Services.
All money raised will be going towards Waterside Pool, part of the Waterside Community Trust. It is hoped that Swan the Solent will become an annual event for the charity.
