A life-improving refurbishment of 2 bathrooms at SSAFA St Vincents in Ryde has been unveiled to a crowd of supporters, thanks to a £10,000 pledge from Southern Water.
The award-winning care home on the outskirts of Binstead is dedicated to caring for and supporting Armed Forces veterans and their dependents.
The newly equipped bathrooms will ensure the dignity and privacy of the residents is upheld, whilst making their lives more comfortable.
As well as supporting the improvement work, Southern Water employees have been volunteering at the home over the last year helping to refurbish the memorial garden as well as meeting and chatting to the residents.
Sharon Atter, SSAFA St Vincents Residential Care Home manager, says:
“We are thrilled to be able to offer these upgraded facilities to our residents. Their well-being is our top priority and any way to maximise this is gratefully received. We would like to say thank you to the team at Southern Water for making this possible.”
Beverly Thompson, community campaigns and engagement manager at Southern Water, says:
“It’s an honour to be able to help provide a facility such as this. We chose to help SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, because of their invaluable work supporting those who have served our country. It’s our turn to give back!”
SSAFA’s work across the UK ranges from supporting veterans who are learning to adapt to life changing physical injuries or bereavement support for families who have lost a loved one in battle; from providing care for elderly Second World War veterans to young men and women who have served in Afghanistan and Syria and their families.
