Southern Vectis will observe the national silence due to take place on Saturday 17th April.
The local bus operator’s drivers will pull over at 15:00 for a minute’s silence to mark the death of His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh.
Andrew Wickham, Managing Director of Southern Vectis, says:
“This is our opportunity to pay our respects, along with the rest of the nation, to His Royal Highness.
“Our drivers will pull over, if it is safe to do so, at 3pm to coincide with the ceremonial funeral, which will take place at St George’s Chapel, Windsor. This will also give those on-board a chance to mark the occasion if they wish to do so.”
so – they are going to forcibly impose a delay on their paying customers, so of whom may not be royalist – once again, southern vectis is ignoring its paying customers who should not be inconvenienced like this.
they have no right to arbitrarily expect everyone to observe this and by stopping the bus they are imposing it on paying customers
Isle of Whinger do you purposly just sit everyday watching to see what you can whinge about next, its called respect and they like many others are making their show of it, is 2 minutes to stop and show respects to much to take out of your boring life with you i guess it is.
Did you show respect to another strangers family member that died recently – take your pick from the obits columns.
No you didn’t – so why should people be expected to stop and interrupt their day, to think about someone elses family member, who they didn’t know and most certainly didn’t know them

If any passengers do not want to pay their respects then they should not get on a bus that will pull over at 3pm.

Well done , Southern Vectis. I am no great Royalist, but Prince Philip dedicated his whole life to the queen and this country and deserves our respect, unlike the anti royalists on here who deserve our disdain.

Well said Ian, it’s not about being a royalist it’s about being respectful to one another unfortunately a minority donot know how to do this probably due to how they were raised.
If being a good husband and a nice man is enough to get this response then we’ll never get anywhere. Ten a penny. An unremarkable man how entered into an arranged marriage and got lucky that they liked each other. Go read the real history, not the drivel online or in schools. It’s a business.
Royalist definition – a person who supports the principle of a Monarchy. If anyone feels it necessary to bang on about the fact that they are not a Royalist, and feels it appropriate to moan about a minute’s silence being observed, perhaps they should consider emigrating to a Republic, where they would no doubt be a lot happier.
