Building society members’ small change has made a big difference to a charity on the Isle of Wight which provides respite and full time care for children with disabilities.
Beaulieu Respite has received a £2,000 donation from Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation after being nominated by colleagues at the Yorkshire’s agency in Ryde at Ward House Mortgages & Life, on Union Street.
The money has enabled the charity to buy a touch screen sensory computer for children to use at the Beaulieu House Residential and Respite Centre in Newport and fund respite day trips to give families a break.
Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation is funded through the Small Change Big Difference scheme where members donate the pennies from the interest on their accounts just once a year to help smaller charities around the UK.
Tony Wake, chairman of Beaulieu Respite, said:
“There are many therapeutic and educational benefits that a sensory computer can provide for children and young people with a wide range of needs and disabilities. A lot of the children have access to such technology at school but now they will able to benefit whilst at our centre.
“We’re really grateful to the members of Yorkshire Building Society who donate the pennies from their interest every year to help charities such as ours. Like many other charities, we rely on donations in order to keep providing the vital services in a homely environment that many in our community rely on.”
As well as offering respite care for children and their families, Beaulieu House also offers outreach services, support and information.
Michael Ward, proprietor of Ward House Mortgages & Life, said:
“The Charitable Foundation is funded by the Yorkshire’s members and, having been involved on the island with many charities over the years, on visiting Beaulieu House, I know they would be as proud as I am to be able to support such a worthwhile charity which really makes a difference to many lives now and in the future.”
