SNOW AND ICE WARNING ISSUED FOR THE ISLE OF WIGHT

yellowsnowice29012015UPDATED: The Met Office have this morning (Thursday) issued a yellow severe weather warning for snow and ice for the Isle of Wight.

Forecasters say that showers moving in later this afternoon and into this evening are expected to fall increasingly as sleet, snow and hail, with the chance that it may settle in places.

In addition, a more persistent spell of rain, sleet and snow has the potential to affect the Island and other parts of the South Coast during the early hours of Friday morning.

icefeaturedbreakingThe Met office say that most areas are unlikely to see large amounts of snow but icy stretches are likely to form on untreated surfaces.

Islanders are being reminded of the risk of some travel disruption and difficult driving conditions.

UPDATE @ 12:35 – Island Roads will be gritting the road network from 18:00 tonight (Thursday).
